Kirin Brewer Innovates with Frozen Frosty Beer Machine

Beer drinkers listen up. A Japanese brewer has come up with a novel way to keep cool this summer by designing a machine which adds a frozen froth to your beer.

When the notoriously hot and sticky Japanese summer kicks in, many in the country reach for a cold beer and the air conditioner’s on switch. However, with all 54 of the country’s nuclear plants currently offline following last year’s disaster at the Fukushima facility, parts of the nation are facing the prospect of intermittent power outages in the coming months — which could well lead to summer days steamier than a Swedish sauna.

Maynards are giving customers the chance to have their face immortalised in candy.

It was just last month we saw Maxwell House handing out free coffee and positive messages at their Optimism Cafe in Toronto, and now Maynards Canada — another Kraft Canada brand — are using another novel marketing approach with a human touch by giving customers the chance to have their face immortalized in Maynards candy.

Jessica Sheth, Brand Manager for Maynards Candy, explains “Maynards fans are an extremely passionate bunch when it comes to expressing their love for their favourite candy. So we thought hey, why not let a Maynards fan actually be a Maynards?” The ‘Make Your Face a Maynards’ competition, open until 30 September, is being managed via Facebook. Users first have to ‘like’ the Maynards Canada Facebook page in order to then upload a photo. Using the trace tool they cut their face from the picture and can choose to transform it into one of Maynard’s most popular treats: Sour Patch Kids, Fuzzy Peach, Sour Cherry Blasters, or Swedish Berries. Image brightness and contrast can be adjusted before the fan creates a custom pack design and submits a brief statement as to why their face would be the perfect match for Maynards. Officials will then select the top ten faces to be showcased on the Facebook page before a winner is determined by a random draw on 24 October. The prize includes CAD 5,000, a trip for two to Toronto for a photo shoot, a tour of the Maynards factory, and a year’s supply of Maynards candy featuring the winner’s face.

With nearly 62,000 ‘likes’ on Facebook the competition is clearly popular, and Maynards will enjoy additional publicity from presence on fan’s profile pages. How could you create something similar to give back to your most loyal fans?

Dutch liqueur brand Bols has launched the world’s first alcoholic foam.

Aimed at both the on- and off-trades, the versatile foam is designed to furnish cocktails, single serve drinks, sparkling wine, sodas, coffees and desserts, making molecular mixology available to everyday drinkers.

Created using a special pump and a patented ingredient, the foam keeps its hold for up to 15 minutes and comes in six different flavours: banana, blue, crème de cassis, amaretto, peppermint and white cacao.

Bols Bartending Academy’s global ambassador and head trainer, Rob Rademaker, said: “Bols is the first company in the world to introduce instant foam from the bottle. We’re excited to see how it will be received in the bartending community and among consumers.

“The launch of Bols Foam makes molecular mixology accessible to all and brings innovation to drinks presentation, producing new taste sensations for the consumer and enhancing the creative potential of Bols liqueurs,” Rademaker added.

Johna Penman, marketing controller for specialities for Bols’ distributor Maxxium UK, added: “Bols Foam is an exciting development for the UK and offers something new and unique with huge potential to enhance creativity and add theatre to drinks serves.”

The Bols Foam launch took place yesterday at Glo Glo’s in East London, where Rademaker demonstrated its versatility by incorporating the foam into a number of classic cocktails, including the Martinez and the Ramos Fizz.
